Magtration®

Applications of Magtration® Technology

Magtration® Technology can be applied in various fields by modifying the surface of magnetic particles. PSS has developed a variety of instruments with Magtration® Technology and their reagents.

Magnetic particles

Genetic test field

The PSS Magtration® instrument, consisting of a simple X-Y-Z pipetting station and magnet attached to it, can handle any magnetic particles. While the size of the apparatus is downsized in combination with a prepackaged reagent cartridge, nucleic acid extraction can be carried out without special skill. For that reason, 8,000 or more automated nucleic acid extractors based on Magtration® Technology, with characteristic of its compactness, rapidness and convenience, have been sold mainly as OEM products (as of June 30. 2010). Further, the Magtration® technology was employed for sample preparation in the blood Nucleic acid Amplification Test (NAT) adopted by the Japanese Red Cross Society (JRC) in 1999. These systems had been used routinely during the period of 1999 to 2007.

There have been many clinical studies curried out using magnetic particles in various laboratories, in which instruments with Magtration® Technology contribute to automate the processes in, such as, epigenetics and chromatin immune-precipitation method.

Immunoassay

Immunoassay using magnetic particles had been used as automated systems in routine tests and their usefulness was recognized. However, those systems had very complicated mechanism to handle magnetic particles. The PSS Magtration® Technology, which consists of a mechanism identical with that of conventional nucleic acid extraction apparatuses and a detecting element added to it, allows entire automation of all steps from reaction to analysis.

Downsizing of the apparatus has enabled bedside examinations, realizing application to POC tests, which are aimed at improvement in quality of medical care with rapid diagnosis and treatment by physician.
